Food Impact and Earth Day 🌎

We started our morning with the Food Impact Nutrition program. Students learned about micronutrients.
Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats are known as micronutrients. They are the essential nutrients required by the body in large quantities to provide energy (calories), support growth, and maintain structural functions.

First, students looked at different cereals and compared the protein, sugar and fibre. We had a thoughtful discussion about the best foods to start the day for learning!

Then students began preparing the ingredients for the pasta salad. They were cutting, dicing, and squeezing fresh ingredients. Some students chopped crisp vegetables like cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes, while others measured and mixed ingredients for the dressing. They worked on safely using kitchen tools, following directions, and taking turns. As they worked, students practiced teamwork, communication, and independence, all while building excitement for the final dish they created together.

The pasta salad was delicious.
Students have brought home a recipe card so they can make the pasta salad for their family!

Ask me about my Earth Day poem!
