We began our morning by practicing making connections in our learning. In Grade 4, students are developing deeper connections between their own experiences, the texts they read, and their thoughts and emotions. We encourage students to interact thoughtfully with texts by connecting ideas to personal experiences, other texts, and the world around them. Making these connections helps students better understand what they read, express their thinking clearly, and engage more meaningfully with learning.
This task was challenging for some students, so we had a class heart-to-heart about what is expected of Grade 4 learners. We discussed that one simple sentence does not meet Grade 4 expectations and that students are responsible for showing their thinking in greater detail. We also talked about the importance of perseverance and personal responsibility—students are expected to try their best, even when learning feels difficult.
Tomorrow, we will revisit this task and try again. Mrs. Sloane hopes students reflected on our conversation and will come ready to take responsibility for their learning by giving their best effort, even when the work feels hard.
Students were asked to make text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world connections after listening to and discussing Nerdy Birdy. They were able to use the guiding questions to help prompt and support their connections.
In Math we practiced 3 digit by 1 digit multiplication and WOW...Mrs. Sloane was so impressed!
Students then had the opportunity to play a few math games to practice their fact fluency!
In Phys. Ed we started basketball!
We were practicing dribbling!
